Thank you for all that you do for Silsbee High School. With all of the success the campus has had thus far, it surely is a great day to be a Silsbee Tiger!

Between last year and this year, Silsbee High School has had a lot to brag about academically and with extra-curricular activities. Silsbee HS not only received a "Met Standard" rating, according to Texas Education Agency, but all subjects combined performed above the state; graduation rate was above the state average; and average SAT scores were also above the state average.

Silsbee HS finished no. 8 in the state of Texas in the 2015-2016 UIL Lone Star Cup which recognizes the efforts of our students, and how they performed in UIL competitions ranging from band, OAP, academics, and athletics. Our departments at Silsbee HS work hard for our kids, our campus and our community, and I am VERY proud of the work that has been done, but with anything, including myself, there is always room for improvement.

Our campus has implemented several "Innovative Courses" as defined by Texas Education Agency in an effort to provide a high quality education for our students at Silsbee HS. Just to name "all" of them – Strategic Strategies for High School Math, College Transition, AVID, Video Game Design, Sports Medicine, Intro to Process Operating, and Disaster Response. Other courses we added to the course catalog include: Forensic Science, Robotics, Applied Engineering, and Manufacturing Welding.

Silsbee HS was approved to operate as an Early College High School as designated by TEA in Spring 2016. Essentially, those 9th graders selected to participate in the program will have the opportunity to obtain 60 college credit hours or an Associates Degree by the time they graduate from high school, all for free. Silsbee HS has partnered with Lamar Institute of Technology to offer the Early College High School model. Lamar Institute of Technology President Dr. Lonnie Howard has committed to the following as it was presented to the SISD school board: 1) place an LIT Academic Advisor on the Silsbee HS campus to work with students, teachers, and parents; 2) take on the cost of advertisement for the ECHS and LIT; and 3) wants Silsbee HS to be the regional hub for LIT. LIT also worked with Silsbee HS to provide grant funds for our Dual Credit students for Fall 2016 and Spring 2017. LIT also assisted Silsbee HS in writing and applying for two grants – one from TEA and one from the Texas Workforce Commission.

Silsbee HS has also secured some industry partners to work with our students. South Hampton has agreed to work with Silsbee HS with our Process Operating program. The following companies have agreed to work with our Manufacturing Welding program at Silsbee HS: Exxon Mobil, B&E Resources (Buna), TECHCORR USA (Port Neches), Leak Sealers Inc. (Lumberton), and McInnis Construction Inc. (Silsbee). The following companies have agreed to work with our Auto Tech program at Silsbee HS: Silsbee KIA, Nissan of Silsbee, and Hyundai of Silsbee.
Silsbee HS is on track to triple the number of students taking the SAT.  Forty freshman from the ECHS program have taken the Texas Success Initiative Assessment and the PSAT. We have 61 students in the AVID program in which they learned college success skills such as note-taking skills, organizational skills, and the opportunity to have tutoring sessions during the day. We will be expanding this program to 10th graders next year.

Silsbee HS Extra-Curricular success over the last two years: gualified for all-state choir; qualified for all-state band; Robotics team qualified for state; FCCLA won at state and advanced to nationals, FFA teams advanced in competition and have student represented at National FFA, One-Act Play, Criminal Justice qualified for state, UIL academic students advanced, football advanced to playoffs, volleyball advanced to playoffs, cross country advanced, girls basketball advanced to playoffs, baseball advanced to playoffs, softball advanced to playoffs, cheer competing in UIL State Cheer competition, swim qualified for UIL State competition, tennis qualified for UIL State competition, track qualified for UIL State Competition, boys basketball qualified for UIL State Tournament, and I am sure I missed a group or individual so I sincerely apologize. We had several students win scholarship money with showing animals and with the fishing team. We have several groups that are vital to the Tiger Pridel: Tunnel Team, Tigerettes, and ALL of the student organizations that help make up our campus and provide a service to our campus and community.

Silsbee HS offers Dual Credit courses through Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College-Orange, and we just signed an agreement with Lamar University.  We also offer Advanced Placement classes for our students.  We offer Pre-AP courses, Honors courses, on-level courses, and special education classes.  We have support staff for special education students and this year we have support staff for our 504 students. Silsbee HS offers courses for those students that wish to pursue a college education and those that wish to pursue a career.  In summary, Silsbee HS has one of the best high schools in Texas! We have great kids, great staff, and a great community that supports what WE do here! I commend you for choosing education as it is the hardest job ever and has the most impact of all.  I am proud of Silsbee High School and I am proud to be a Silsbee Tiger!
