Media Guidelines
Silsbee ISD is committed to fostering a cooperative relationship with the news media. The Communications Department is responsible for facilitating media contact regarding campus news, events, and activities, preparing for on-site visits, and responding to media inquiries.
Media Inquiries
All media inquiries, including those sent via email, should be directed to the Communications Director. Exceptions include routine athletic and extracurricular activity coverage during games, tournaments, and performances that are open to the public and conducted outside of regular school hours.
Media Visits
If a media representative requests to visit a campus or arrives at a campus or district facility without prior approval, the Communications Department should be notified immediately. Unauthorized media representatives should be politely asked to leave. For assistance, contact the Communications Director at 409-980-7838.
Interviews
Media representatives may interview staff or students during the school day with prior approval. Access to classrooms is granted at the discretion of campus administration and/or the Communications Department. Notification and agreement from the campus principal, classroom teacher, and/or appropriate staff members are required to ensure the learning environment is not disrupted. The taking of photographs, audio, or video is also subject to the discretion of campus administrators and the Communications Department.
Silsbee ISD strictly enforces student privacy preferences and releases student information as outlined in the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
