ONE CONFIRMED CASE OF WHOOPING COUGH REPORTED AT SILSBEE ELEMENTARY

DECEMBER 18, 2024 - Silsbee Independent School District has one confirmed case of Whooping Cough (Pertussis) at Silsbee Elementary. While privacy laws prevent the disclosure of the affected student’s identity or additional details, SISD is actively addressing the situation to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff.

The district has notified the Hardin County Health Department, which is conducting an investigation into the case. In addition, SISD is enhancing sanitation procedures across all campuses and is following the health department’s guidance. The district is in compliance with all state-mandated vaccination requirements.

Parents and guardians are urged to monitor their children for any symptoms of Whooping Cough and to contact their healthcare provider if concerns arise. Educational materials about Whooping Cough, along with a letter from the Hardin County Health Department, have been sent to all parents and guardians through the email that is on file with the district. Additionally, these resources are accessible on the district’s website under the Health Services section.

“This is a community effort, and we appreciate the cooperation of our parents, staff, and health officials as we work to maintain a safe and healthy learning environment,” said Kirsten Martin, SISD Director of Health Services.

The Silsbee Independent School District is committed to providing a safe and nurturing educational environment for all students.
