Step 1
Complete the online application at TalentEd. Payroll will contact you to complete the fingerprinting and background check process.

Step 2
Receive an email from Payroll to complete the online training course: CLICK HERE
Substitute Teacher and Paraprofessional complete the Orientation and Effective Substitute Traning online course. Cost is $39
Returning Substitutes and Nurses complete the Substitute Refresher Training online course. Cost is $19
Step 3
OBSERVATION: Complete a minimum of three hours at two of the Silsbee campuses.
- Obtain an observation form from Silsbee ISD Administration Office
- Contact campus secretary to schedule a date and time for classroom observation.
- Report to the campus secretary on the scheduled date to ask for specific instructions.
- Return signed form to the Silsbee ISD Administration Office.
Step 4
Schedule an appointment with Payroll to complete new hire documents and to establish a Frontline account and review how to accept a request for a substitute. You will also have your school ID badge made.
Step 5
Start substitute teaching.
Substitute Pay
Aides: $75.00 per day
Teachers:
- Non degree: $90.00 per day
- Degree/Uncertified: $110 per day
- Certified: $125 per day
Licensed Registered Nurse: $105.00 per day
Teacher Long-Term Degreed Uncertified, beginning on 11th day: $120.00 per day
Teacher Long-Term Certified, beginning on 11th day: $135.00 per day
Substitute employees are eligible for district health benefits after working at least 10 hours in a week. Substitutes are NOT eligible for Unemployment Compensation during holidays and/or school breaks including summer.
