Meet the Superintendent

Dr. Gregg Weiss, Superintendent

The Silsbee ISD Board of Trustees appointed Dr. Gregg Weiss as Superintendent on April 10, 2019. With 30 years of experience in education, Dr. Weiss has a proven track record of introducing new opportunities for all students and teachers, as well as leveraging them to close the achievement gap.

Dr. Gregg Weiss completed his 25th year in education as he entered Silsbee ISD as superintendent. He has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, executive director of secondary schools and finance, and 17 years as a school superintendent.

He has held superintendent positions at Mount Vernon ISD and New Summerfield ISD. While at New Summerfield ISD, the district also received multiple recognized ratings for the first time in their school history, successfully passed a TRE, Bond Election, and completed several building programs to meet the needs of the students and district.

Under his most recent superintendency at Mt. Vernon ISD, the district received its first ever Post Secondary Readiness Distinction, achieved multiple academic distinctions at each campus, captured numerous academic and athletic UIL championships, balanced the budget for the first time in five years while also increasing Career and Technology funding from $680,000 to exceed $1.3 million.

Dr. Weiss received his Bachelor of Science at Howard Payne University in 1994, Masters of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 1999, and his Doctorate of Education from Texas A&M University-Commerce in December of 2016. He holds certifications as superintendent as well as a mid-management certification and teacher certification.

Dr. Weiss is married to his wife Melisia. They have three daughters and a son.
