A New Era Begins: Silsbee ISD Announces New Head Boys Basketball Coach
May 20, 2025 - Silsbee ISD is excited to announce that Cornelius Brown has been named the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for the Tigers.
Coach Brown brings over a decade of experience in education and coaching, having led successful basketball programs across Southeast Texas. Most recently, he served as the varsity first assistant at Port Arthur ISD.
“We’re excited to welcome Coach Brown to the Silsbee Tiger family,” said Athletic Director Randy Smith. “He has a strong coaching background, a passion for developing young athletes, and a clear vision for building on our winning tradition. We believe he’s the right fit to lead our program into its next chapter.”
In addition to his basketball experience, Coach Brown has coached multiple sports, including football and track, and holds certifications in both Physical Education and Special Education. His educational background includes a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. He also holds degrees from Southern New Hampshire University, Kilgore Junior College, and Texas State Technical College.
Coach Brown’s coaching career includes stops at Port Arthur ISD, Anahuac ISD, and Kirbyville CISD, where he built programs rooted in discipline, teamwork, and consistent playoff performance. His versatile coaching style and focus on student development make him a valuable addition to Silsbee ISD.
As Coach Brown steps into this new role, Silsbee ISD also takes a moment to honor the incredible legacy of Coach Joe Sigler, who is retiring after 30 years of dedicated service to Tiger basketball. Under Coach Sigler’s leadership, the Silsbee Tigers became one of the most respected programs in Texas. His teams won numerous district and state titles, made deep playoff runs, and helped student-athletes reach their full potential on and off the court.
“Coach Sigler has been more than a coach—he’s been a mentor, leader, and role model to generations of student-athletes,” Smith said. “His legacy will always be a part of Silsbee basketball.”
Silsbee ISD is grateful to Coach Sigler for his years of service and leadership and looks forward to continuing the tradition of excellence with Coach Brown at the helm.
