Empowering the Next Generation: Silsbee ISD and Lamar University Launch Teacher Residency Partnership

March 4, 2026 - We are thrilled to announce that Silsbee ISD has officially joined forces with Lamar University and other local districts in the innovative Teacher Residency Program. This isn't just a student-teaching stint; it’s a powerful, year-long immersion designed to tackle staffing shortages by preparing elite educators right here in our classrooms.

Through this partnership, aspiring teachers in their final year of their Bachelor’s degree choose Silsbee ISD for a paid, hands-on residency. They aren’t just observing—they are co-teaching alongside our veteran host teachers for a full year, ensuring they are fully prepared to lead their own classrooms from day one.

On March 4, the Silsbee ISD team headed to Lamar University’s Residency Recruitment event, and the energy was electric! We met with over 50 passionate students, and from the very first conversation, one thing was clear: the future of education is in incredible hands.

These future educators were engaging, articulate, and—most importantly—eager to see what life is like as a Silsbee Tiger. We left the event with an overwhelming sense of pride, knowing that so many talented individuals are ready to bring their energy and dedication to our schools.
