SHS GOLD! Robotics Team Heads Back to State Tournament

October 26, 2024 – The SHS GOLD Robotics Team is heading back to the state competition after an impressive performance at a tournament in Cypress! Competing against over 50 other teams, SHS GOLD secured a second-place finish after a series of intense matches. This year, the team is looking for a THREE-peat of the title State Champions.

Despite facing challenges with drive motors overheating during back-to-back matches, the team remained determined and punched their ticket to the state tournament. Along with their second-place win, the team also brought home the Design Award and placed third in the Solo Skills Challenge.

The SHS GOLD! robotics team consists of:

  • Audie Miller (senior)
  • Sawyer Wimer (sophomore)
  • Noah Davenport (sophomore)

Vic Miller, Silsbee High School's engineering and robotics teacher, expressed pride in his students’ dedication and teamwork. “GOLD is certainly off to a fine start this season,” said Miller. “As always, I feel honored to be the coach of these dedicated kids, and I thank God for blessing their hard work with so much success.” He also thanked Pasadena’s High Voltage Team for their partnership and support.

State isn't until February 1st in Houston.  Between now and then, other robotics teams will try to qualify, but Silsbee was able to do it in the first outing of the season. The next tournament for SHS GOLD! is Saturday, November 2nd, in Katy.

Silsbee ISD is incredibly proud of SHS GOLD and all that this program continues to achieve. Congratulations to the team, and we look forward to cheering them on at state! Go SHS GOLD!
