SHS UIL Academic Team brings home multiple top finishes at Bridge City 'Brain Games'

November 11, 2023 - Over the weekend, the Silsbee High School UIL Academic teams competed at the Mart Cardinal Brain Games. The Tigers put their knowledge to the test, and their hard work shined bright bringing home multiple top finishes.

They include:

  • Harlan Self: 5th place in Number Sense

  • Matthew Ard: 5th place in Spelling
  • Briana Glenn: 6th place in Spelling
  • Spelling Team: 3rd place overall (Matthew Ard, Briana Glenn and Kate Vickery)

According to UIL, it offers the most comprehensive program of academic competition in the nation. UIL Academics offers more activities than any other UIL division, with 30 contests at the high school level and 20 A+ Academic contests for grades 2-8. More than half a million students participate in UIL academic contests each year.

These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge, to challenge students to confront issues of importance, and to provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills. Students are challenged to think critically and creatively, exhibiting much more than knowledge and comprehension.

Our Tigers continue to excel academically, and we are very proud of their commitment to their education.
