Silsbee Education Foundation Receives $40,591.51 Donation from the Second Annual Charlie and Sherry Woodard Golf Open

September 30, 2025 – Birdies, bogeys, and big hearts, oh my! The Second Annual Charlie and Sherry Woodard Golf Open proved to be about more than just golf this year. The fairways at Champion Ranch turned into pathways of generosity, raising an incredible $40,591.51 for the Silsbee Education Foundation.

On Tuesday, tournament organizers presented the check in front of Silsbee High School. This year’s donation marks a significant increase from the inaugural tournament’s contribution of $25,000.

Tournament organizers Doug Almond, Ricky McInnis, Heath Donalson,Scott Droddy, Molly Woodard and Doby Dear expressed their appreciation for the community’s generosity.

“We are blown away by the support this year,” said organizer Heath Donalson. “This tournament has already grown beyond what we imagined in just two years, and we’re committed to making it bigger and better each year. Every dollar raised goes right back into classrooms, and that’s something we’re very proud of.”

Because of this year’s donation, the Silsbee Education Foundation awarded teacher grants totaling $26,618.05 across all four campuses in Silsbee ISD.

Superintendent Dr. Gregg Weiss praised the partnership between the Silsbee Education Foundation and our district and its lasting impact.

“These grants give teachers the freedom to dream big and bring innovative ideas into their classrooms,”  Dr. Weiss said. “We are so grateful to Charlie and Sherrie Woodard and for those who helped make this event possible. We have extraordinary people in this community helping to make the teaching and learning experience the best it can be at SISD.”

The Grants for Great Ideas Program funds innovative and creative instructional approaches in classrooms. This year’s awards supported initiatives including new band instruments, physical education equipment, sensory tools for students with special needs, and hands-on resources for veterinary science, agriculture, nursing, and floral design programs.

With continued community support, the Silsbee Education Foundation and the Woodard Golf Open are helping ensure Silsbee ISD students have the tools and opportunities they need to thrive.
