Silsbee Floral Design Students Make History at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
MARCH 9, 2025 - Eleven students from Silsbee High School competed in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Horticulture Competition, making history by earning first place in both the Texas Tables and Rodeo Cup divisions.
Matti Potter and Kylee Champagne led the way with top finishes. Matti earned first place in Texas Tables and third place in the Rodeo Cup, showing strong skills in both categories. Kylee took first place in the Rodeo Cup, winning a championship buckle and a $1,000 prize. Their hard work and dedication set a new standard for Silsbee’s floral design program.
In the Texas Tables division, Madison Konstantine placed third, adding to the team’s success. In the Rodeo Cup, four students advanced to the finals, with Sarah Langston placing ninth.
Matti Potter shared her excitement about the achievement. “Competing at Houston has always been something I looked forward to, but winning both first and third place this year felt unreal. To represent Silsbee and help make history for our program is something I’ll always be proud of.”
Kylee Champagne reflected on her first-place finish. “Winning at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo felt surreal. We’ve worked so hard for this moment. To hear my name called for first place was a feeling I’ll never forget.”
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest event of its kind in the nation, making these accomplishments even more meaningful. In total, students earned more than $3,000 in scholarships and awards.
Floral design instructor Courtney Champagne praised the team’s efforts. “This is one of the biggest honors our floral program has ever experienced. We’ve competed in this event annually, but this is the first time we’ve taken first place in both divisions. That’s not just a win—it’s a legacy moment. These students poured their hearts into their designs, and to see them rewarded at the highest level is beyond incredible.”
Congratulations to Brooke Stout, Kylee Champagne, Kylie Watson, Matti Potter, Rhaleigh Cox, Kam Balusek, Chloe Farrugia, Madison Konstantine, Sarah Langston, Kenley Creel, and Payton Gill for representing Silsbee with pride.
