Silsbee High School Senior (2025) Represents Texas at FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Seattle
July 10, 2024 - Silsbee High School senior Nayomee McGrue recently attended the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington, as a voting delegate representing Texas.
Nayomee's journey to the national stage began in January when she was elected as the Region IV Vice President of Public Relations, impressing the selection committee with her eloquent speech and leadership potential.
At the conference, Nayomee, accompanied by FCCLA sponsor and high school teacher Kara Baker, had the opportunity to engage with motivational speakers, participate in workshops, and network with youth leaders from across the country. A key highlight of the event was the Business Session, where Nayomee and other Texas voting delegates cast their votes on various bylaw amendments and policy proposals.
Beyond the conference sessions, Nayomee and Kara explored the expo hall, where they participated in a community service project by creating snack bags for children in need. The trip also allowed for some sightseeing, with visits to notable Seattle landmarks such as The Public Market, the Seattle Space Needle, Miner's Landing Pier, and the Seattle Aquarium. They wrapped up their visit with a game at T-Mobile Park, where Nayomee and other FCCLA members were featured on the big screen during the Mariners vs. Orioles match.
The week-long conference provided invaluable experiences for Nayomee, enhancing her leadership skills and broadening her horizons. The Silsbee High School community eagerly anticipates the positive impact Nayomee will bring, inspired by the knowledge and experiences gained at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference.
