Silsbee High School Student Council Earns Top Honors at District 17 Spring Convention
February 25, 2025 - The Silsbee High School Student Council continues to raise the bar for excellence, earning top awards and recognition at the District 17 Spring Convention held at Ford Park on February 26.
Recognized for their outstanding efforts, the council received accolades for their committee work in Pride & Patriotism, Energy & Environment, DASH (Drugs, Alcohol, Safety, and Health), and Community Service. Their commitment to leadership and service earned them the prestigious Outstanding Student Council award, and for the fifth consecutive year, Silsbee High School was named a Sweepstakes School—a testament to their dedication to school spirit and community impact.
In addition to the council’s success, senior Robbie Abshire was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from District 17 Student Council. Robbie, who currently serves as Student Body President, has been a dedicated leader throughout his time in Student Council, even serving as a Junior Counselor at several Texas Association of Student Council (TASC) statewide camps.
The 2024 Student Body Officers—Robbie Abshire, Nadia Jessie, Lana Rivas, Grace Rulon, and Sadiey Rodriguez, with Sophia Galvan and Kaydence Teal-Hansen also serving but not pictured—have worked tirelessly to plan and execute the projects and activities that have made this year so successful.
As the 2023-2024 District 17 Past President School, Silsbee High School has played a crucial role in leadership at the district level. Looking ahead, the council is proud to announce that Silsbee High School will serve as the 2025-2026 TASC District 17 Secretary School. Nadia Jessie will represent Silsbee as the student delegate, alongside advisor Angela Camden.
"I am so proud of the work that our Student Council does to promote spirit and service at Silsbee High School," said Student Council Advisor Ms. Camden. "This is the fifth year in a row that we have been named a Sweepstakes School. I attribute this to not only the current members but also to those who have graduated and helped build a strong foundation over the past five years."
Congratulations to the Silsbee High School Student Council for their continued dedication to leadership, service, and school pride!
