Silsbee High School's Student Council Unleashes Texas-Sized Two-Story Mum to Kickstart Homecoming Week

September 11, 2023 -- In the great state of Texas, where "everything is bigger," the Silsbee High School Student Council has taken that saying to heart by creating a colossal two-story Texas Size Homecoming Mum that's turning heads and stealing the show!

Mums, those iconic symbols of school spirit and homecoming tradition, have always been a cherished part of Texas culture. But this year, the Silsbee High School student council members decided it was time to take their mum game to a whole new level.

Homecoming week started with a jaw-dropping surprise as visitors and students arrived at SHS to find a mammoth two-story Homecoming Mum towering front and center, greeting them with its charm and sheer audacity.

Creating this massive masterpiece was no small feat. It took dedicated students two days of hard work, including painting, cutting, meticulously piecing it together, and then hanging it proudly from the second-story railing.

Their project was brought to life under the guidance of the creative mind behind the project, Student Council sponsor Angela Camden.

“I had an idea in my head on what I wanted, and the students brought it to life and made it even better than what I had envisioned,” said Angela Camden, Student Council Sponsor, beaming with pride.

This epic paper and postered mum, a true labor of love, tips the scales at approximately 30 pounds; it's a marvel of craftsmanship and a testament to the school's spirit.

As the saying goes, “everything is bigger in Texas,” and what better way to make that ring true than to unveil a giant mum that not only kicks off homecoming week but also stands as a symbol of Silsbee High School's unwavering commitment to tradition, creativity, and Texas-sized fun. With this colossal mum in place, Silsbee ISD is showing that they're ready to embrace homecoming like never before!
