Silsbee ISD Celebrates Judy Landis as Silsbee Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year

August 12, 2025 — Silsbee Independent School District proudly celebrates Mrs. Judy Landis, who has been honored as the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year, recognizing her 26 years of exceptional service and dedication to students.

A proud Texas A&M alumna, Mrs. Landis has become a cornerstone at Edwards-Johnson Memorial Silsbee Middle School, inspiring students with her passion, wisdom, and commitment to education. From fostering confidence in struggling learners to challenging high achievers, her approach to teaching goes beyond curriculum to cultivate meaningful connections with each student.

“To step into Mrs. Landis’s classroom is to step into a place where every child is seen, heard, and inspired,” said Dr. Kristi Graham, principal of EJMSMS. “Her love for teaching radiates in all she does. She doesn’t just teach math, she brings it to life, making complex concepts relatable and accessible while celebrating effort just as much as achievement.”

Mrs. Landis’s classroom has become a safe haven for learning, where mistakes are embraced, critical thinking is encouraged, and students are empowered to take ownership of their education. Her dedication has been recognized through years of outstanding T-TESS evaluations and measurable student growth, earning her the prestigious title of Master Teacher by the State of Texas.

“She takes the time to truly know her students, recognizing their individual strengths and needs,” Dr. Graham added. “Her ability to reach the whole child, academically, socially, and emotionally, is what truly sets her apart.”

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Landis supports her former students’ successes and displays her spirited personality through her wardrobe, proudly representing Texas A&M while also celebrating her students’ future paths. Though with one playful exception: UT. Her mentorship extends to peers as well, providing stability and inspiration across the campus.

“Judy is the teacher students remember decades later and the colleague others strive to emulate,” Dr. Graham said. “She represents everything we hope for in an educator—passionate, impactful, humble, and deeply committed to the success of others.”

Mrs. Landis’s recognition by the Silsbee Chamber of Commerce is a testament not only to her professional excellence but also to the countless lives she has touched, uplifted, and transformed throughout her career at EJMSMS.
