Silsbee ISD Names New Assistant Superintendent and Interim Chief of Police

June 20, 2024 - New leadership has emerged at Silsbee ISD to kick off the 2024-2025 school year. Two familiar faces will assume key roles to further enhance the success of the district. Bridget Kirby has been appointed Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Leadership, and Kenny Davenport has been named Interim Chief of Police for Silsbee ISD.

Both Kirby and Davenport are no strangers to the district.

Kirby has been serving as the Executive Director of Secondary Learning for Silsbee ISD for the past year. With over 15 years of experience in education, she has held various positions, including English teacher at Hull-Daisetta and Warren ISD, social studies teacher at Kountze ISD, Instructional Coordinator in Silsbee, and Program Coordinator for Region 5 ESC. Kirby's appointment marks the first new assistant superintendent since Sherrie Thornhill’s retirement in December 2023.

Similarly, the new police chief, Kenny Davenport, is well-known within the Silsbee ISD community. Davenport previously served as the first police chief for Silsbee ISD. He was appointed to the position in May of 2021 after serving as the Director of Security for two years. Davenport’s career in law enforcement began in 1985.

He returns to the role following the tenure of former Police Chief Robert Smith, who will now be instructing the district’s Criminal Justice Program and serving as an Administrative Captain for the Silsbee ISD Police Department.

Superintendent Dr. Gregg Weiss expressed his confidence in the new appointees, stating, "The district is fortunate to have Bridget Kirby and Kenny Davenport in their new positions. Their dedication, experience, and commitment to Silsbee ISD have been evident throughout their careers. We look forward to their continued contributions in fostering a safe and effective learning environment for our students."

Kirby and Davenport’s extensive experience and deep roots in the community promise to bring a continuity of leadership and vision to Silsbee ISD. The district is excited for the year ahead and looks forward to their leadership and dedication to Silsbee ISD.
