Silsbee ISD Provides Hundreds of Meals to Students During Tropical Storm Edouard Closure

September 3, 2026 - When Tropical Storm Edouard forced Silsbee ISD to close district staff quickly came together to make sure students across Tiger Nation still had access to breakfast and lunch.

Silsbee ISD hosted a food distribution at Silsbee Elementary, providing hundreds of meals to students and families throughout the district.

District cafeteria staff came in to prepare and package breakfast and lunch meals, keeping the distribution stocked throughout the day as families stopped by.

“We are incredibly thankful for our cafeteria staff and everyone who stepped up to make this possible,” Silsbee ISD Superintendent Dr. Gregg Weiss said. “Our students are at the heart of everything we do, and today was another example of our employees taking care of our kids and our community when they needed us.”

For several employees, showing up to help meant putting aside challenges they were facing at their own homes. Some of the staff members helping distribute meals were still without power and dealing with clean-up following Tropical Storm Edouard. Despite having plenty to take care of themselves, they wanted to come in, check on their kids and do their part to help take care of our Tigers.

The effort didn't stop at Silsbee Elementary. With several breakfast packages remaining, staff loaded the meals onto one of Silsbee ISD's yellow school buses and took breakfast on the road, making stops at several apartment complexes throughout the community to reach even more students.

By the end of the day, hundreds of Silsbee ISD students had received breakfast and lunch thanks to the combined efforts of Child Nutrition employees, district staff and everyone who volunteered their time to help.

Days like this are a reminder that Tiger Nation is about so much more than what happens inside our classrooms. It's about showing up for one another, taking care of our kids and doing what we can to support our community, especially on the hard days.

Silsbee ISD extends a special thank you to our cafeteria staff who prepared and packaged the meals, the employees who helped distribute and deliver them, and our student-families who stopped by throughout the day.
