Silsbee ISD Welcomes Two New Officers to the Tiger Community
September 19, 2024 – Silsbee ISD is excited to announce the addition of two new officers, Mike Pieper and Jonathan Tiner, who bring a wealth of law enforcement experience to the district. Both officers are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff across all SISD campuses.
Meet Officer Mike Pieper:
Officer Mike Pieper joins Silsbee ISD following the departure of Sgt. Nolen in August 2024. He will serve the Edwards-Johnson Memorial Silsbee Middle School campus, bringing with him 38 years of law enforcement experience. Originally from Southeast Texas, Officer Pieper lived briefly in Arizona before returning to his roots. He and his wife, Kimberly, are newlyweds and share a passion for fitness, both being professional bodybuilders.
“We are thrilled to be here and look forward to making a lifetime of memories, surrounded by family and friends,” said Officer Pieper.
Officer Pieper’s decision to join Silsbee ISD came after a conversation with good friend Interim Police Chief Kenny Davenport.
“He told me about the great work atmosphere and, more importantly, the camaraderie and teamwork among the Police Department and school staff,” Officer Pieper shared. “I’m excited and feel fortunate to be here.”
Officer Pieper’s extensive career includes 31 years with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, where he retired in 2016 as a Major in the Law Enforcement Division. He later served as Chief Investigator at the Hardin County Attorney’s Office from 2021 to 2023. Now, he is eager to settle into his new role at Silsbee ISD.
“I plan on making this my longtime home and promise to treat the staff, parents, and students with the utmost respect while keeping everyone safe,” Officer Pieper added.
As he begins his journey as a protector and mentor at Silsbee ISD, Officer Pieper is ready to make a positive impact on the lives of students and staff.
Meet Officer Jonathan Tiner:
Officer Jonathan Tiner also brings valuable experience to Silsbee ISD, with over six years in law enforcement and related fields. His career began with the United States Marine Corps, where he served for four years, followed by a role as a Correctional Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. Most recently, Officer Tiner served as a patrol officer with the Lumberton Police Department.
“I’ve served in a variety of roles, from Correctional Officer to Jailer and then as a patrol officer. Now, I’m excited to join Silsbee ISD, where I can have a direct impact on students,” Officer Tiner explained.
As a father of three daughters, Officer Tiner values the opportunity to balance his professional duties with family time. He also believes in the importance of strong mentorship for students.
“This role gives me the chance to be a positive influence on the next generation,” he said. “Having had mentors myself, I know how crucial it is for students to have that kind of support.”
Outside of work, Officer Tiner enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, and he shares a passion for fitness, focusing on strength training. His time in the Marine Corps and his law enforcement career have shaped his leadership skills, discipline, and dedication to service.
Officer Tiner is committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment at Silsbee ISD. His goal is to build trust with students and staff, fostering a sense of security where learning can thrive. He will serve the students and staff of P.A.C.E.S./iCAN Academy.
