SISD Trustees approve 2021-2022 School Calendar

The 2021-22 Silsbee ISD School Calendar gained approval on Monday, March 8, 2021 by the SISD Board of Trustees.

The calendar was created based upon a nine-week grading period. Two different calendars were then provided to campus administrators and teachers for review and feedback.

The feedback, listed below, was taken into consideration when developing the calendar for recommendation to the Board of Trustees.

RECOMMENDATION

  • Weeklong breaks are better than long weekends
  • Weather is not good for a break in February

CHANGE

No weeklong break in February

RECOMMENDATION

Not enough in-service days before school starts, especially with no exchange days

CHANGE

Reduced student instructional days by creating longer holiday weekends in February and April. Teacher days added to August.

RECOMMENDATION

Concerned with the length of the school day (total minutes) for students and teachers

CHANGE

Reduced the length of the school day by 10 minutes.

RECOMMENDATION

Nine-week grading periods with two teacher planning days is great.

CHANGE

Changes to the number of student days above caused the need to change a teacher planning day to an early release for students allowing the rest of the day for teacher planning.
