Silsbee ISD Bus Transportation Driver Beverly Ketchum likes to take the Christmas Holidays to a whole new level.
Her and the esteemed Bus 35 have gained a little bit of popularity during the Christmas Holidays after a simple idea to give all of her bus students trips to view Holiday lights in the early evenings.
"I care for all of my kids that I transport everyday on my bus," she said. "I came up with the idea, but I have to give all thanks to Silsbee ISD, the transportation department, and the administrators for allowing me to do this."
Ketchum may have started with some Christmas decor on her bus, but now, it has become the most festive bus in the fleet at Silsbee ISD, which has a route north Silsbee.
Complete with Christmas decorative ornament magnets all over the exterior, there is also a huge welcome message on the side, proudly displaying "Merry Christmas".
But that isn't all she wanted to decorate. Step inside Bus 35 and you'll find Christmas lights across the ceiling of the bus and decorations throughout for all the students to enjoy.
Ketchum offered her bus route students rides to see Christmas lights last year, and the idea has gained so much popularity, she decided to continue the tradition this year.
She has set aside certain evenings for the rides that typically take a couple of hours. Parents/guardians must sign permission waivers, and along they go.
This year, some parents have even volunteered to help with snacks, or cookies to take along.
"The kids look forward to this every year," Ketchum said.
