Final TEA FIRST report shows Silsbee ISD gets Superior 'A' Rating and perfect score

NOVEMBER 11,2022 -- Silsbee ISD scored an 'A' on its preliminary financial report card for a second year in a row. This is high praise for the district's financial department from the Texas Education Agency.

According to the FIRST rating, this means the district scored 100, which is a Superior Rating.

The Silsbee ISD Finance Department led by Tricia Brooks, Director of Business and Finance has done an outstanding job of ensuring responsible fiscal management and transparency for the district.

“As superintendent, I am extremely proud of the work our SISD accounting personnel do each day to ensure both financial efficiency and transparency. We have made tremendous progress over the past three years to improve our financial position and business practices," said Superintendent Dr. Gregg Weiss.

According to the TEA, the state's school financial accountability rating system, known as the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST), ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve these practices. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes.

The preliminary reports were released in August which state the potential findings of the FIRST Rating before the official results are released.
