Silsbee High School FCCLA members headed to regionals
Trio come together for an awareness campaign on dangers of tobacco
Silsbee High School FCCLA members Shawni Roby, Lacy Musslewhite, and Tonia Baneulos will be competing in the Regional FCCLA Contest February 15-17. They have joined together in a project titled "Don't Get Hooked on Tobacco Use."
Part of the project requirements is having facts posted in a community area. The team has made posters for students at the high school, educated students at SES and Laura Reeves.
The students compiled information on the dangers of tobacco use.
Each cigarette reduces your life by 11 minutes
Other than carbon monoxide, it is actually safer to enhale the exhaust of a car than smoke a cigarette
Cigarette smoke contains over 4,800 chemicals, 69 of which are known to cause cancer. They include:
Arsenic (used in rat poison)
Formaldehyde (embalming fluid)
Nicotine (used as an insecticide)
Cadmium (active component in battery acid)
Smokers die an average of 13 or 14 years earlier than non-smokers
Over 20 percent of all deaths in the US are from tobacco
