AVID middle school students prepare for Socktober Drive
The collection drive begins Oct. 28 and runs through Nov. 1.
OCTOBER 25, 2019 – Edwards-Johnson Memorial Silsbee Middle School AVID students are quickly preparing for its annual AVID Socktober Sock Drive to begin on Monday, October 28.
Students will be soliciting for donations of socks along with gloves, beanies, and scarves for those in need. The collection will be donated to Christian Care Center in Silsbee.
“We came up with this drive because we want to help those in need during the cold season,” Silsbee seventh-grade student Nayomee McGrue said.
Middle school students initiated this drive two years ago, with last year being the most successful with over 1,000 pairs of socks collected.
“A lot of people don’t know that socks are the number one needed clothing item for those in need,” seventh-grade student John Taylor said. “We’ll have a lot of places throughout the campus for anyone to donate.”
There will be boxes throughout the middle school campus, and boxes to donate will also be located in the lobby for anyone to donate.
The goal for the students is 670 pairs of socks, because that is the total number of students on the campus. The drive will last through Friday, Nov. 1.
