Silsbee ISD Board of Trustees adopt 2020-21 calendar
Recommended calendar by Supt. Dr. Gregg Weiss aligns with ECHS.
MARCH 11, 2020–The Silsbee ISD Board of Trustees adopted the 2020-2021 Silsbee ISD Academic Calendar by a unanimous vote at its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.
The calendar, which was titled Calendar “A”, was recommended by Superintendent Dr. Gregg Weiss to align with the schedule of the Silsbee Early College High School.
Two calendars were developed and reviewed by the District Advisory Committee in several meetings.
Sherrie Thornhill, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Human Resources reported that the two calendars were developed for a District of Innovation, which allows more flexibility.
“There was a variety of input and this one is a good compromise,” Dr. Gregg Weiss said. “While this calendar does not provide for a winter break per se, it does provide for some extended weekends.”
The calendar will include the traditional holidays of the past with the addition of some extra extended holidays in the fall and spring. School starts mid-week on August 12, which Weiss said will help the district adjust before it’s first full-week in session.
“We tried to look at this on what is best for our students,” he said. “We certainly want to take all the considerations of our teachers too. The main priority was to build this calendar based on the academic success of our students and our Early College High School students, for which we made a commitment to them.”
