Silsbee ISD welcomes Burnthorn as Executive Director of Secondary and School Services
JULY 9, 2020 – Silsbee ISD welcomes Jeff Burnthorn as Executive Director of Secondary and School Services. He comes to Silsbee after serving as the Director of Instruction at Cy-Fair High School in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD.
“I am excited about the opportunity to support our principals, teachers, and school personnel in our journey towards providing the best educational experience for every student in Silsbee ISD,” he said. “I am humbled to have been selected for this position and look forward to reconnecting with the Silsbee community and providing servant leadership.”
Burnthorn began his career in education as a Social Studies teacher, Department Chair, and Campus Instructional Coach at Cypress Ridge High School from 2002-2013. He was named the Teacher of the Year in 2012-2013.
As the Director of Instruction at Cy-Fair High School, he led all instructional coaching, professional development, state accountability, and campus improvement initiatives. He also worked directly with the principal in making staffing decisions, determining campus priorities, and allocating resources. In 2017-2018, the campus received an A rating and earned all seven Distinction Designations.
In addition to his official job duties on the campus, Burnthorn also helped create, design, and facilitate the district-wide Teacher Leader Institute and New Administrator Institute programs designed to grow the leadership capacity and effectiveness of all new teacher leaders and administrators across the district. Through this effort, he has been able to work with several colleagues to improve the culture and climate of campuses across the district while also honing his own leadership skills.
He received his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Economics from Lamar University in 2000 and also earned his Masters in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in 2012.
He is married to his wife, Peggy Hatton Burnthorn, a Spurger native and graduate of Lamar University before becoming a high school math teacher. They have one son, Jacob.
