Chandler named Interim Principal of Silsbee Elementary
JANUARY 4, 2021 – Silsbee Independent School District welcomes Dr. Gerald Chandler named as Interim Principal of Silsbee Elementary School to begin the second semester of the 2020-2021 school year. He fills the position after the retirement of Terry Deaver in December, who served as Silsbee Elementary School principal for 5-1/2 years.
Chandler will be handling duties as principal at the elementary campus with a student population of over 1,000 students and over 120 staff members.
Chandler began his career in 1994 as a teacher at Colmesneil ISD and later Lumberton ISD in the agricultural departments.
He later transitioned to Career and Technology Coordinator at Lumberton High School in 2002 before his promotion to Assistant Principal at the campus. In 2009, he became Principal of Lumberton Intermediate School for three years. In that span, Lumberton Intermediate was awarded “Best Elementary School” by the Hardin County News People’s Choice Awards.
In 2012, Chandler became Assistant Superintendent of Lumberton ISD overseeing curriculum and human resources in the district for five years.
In December 2017, he was named acting Superintendent for Lumberton ISD before being named the official superintendent in 2018 through August 2020.
Chandler began his role at Silsbee Elementary on Monday, January 4, 2021.
