CNA students pass State Certification Exams

Silsbee students collaborated with Kountze for mock exams.

APRIL 27, 2021 – Silsbee Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) students hosted Kountze CNA students in a mock skills exam on April 8, 2021. The mock skills demonstration is set up for students to experience how the State Certification Exam will be conducted first-hand.

Students collaborated with each other and worked together in team building scenarios and patient care techniques.  All 11 students passed their Mock exam.

On April 18, seven Silsbee CNA students passed their State Certification Exam held at the Silsbee High School Health Science Technology lab. These students had to pass a knowledge-based computer test followed by demonstration of five random skills in front of a Nurse Aide Evaluator certified by the State of Texas.

Students must demonstrate safety in five domains: promotion of safety, role of the nurse aide, promotion of function and health of residents, basic nursing care provided by the nurse aide, and providing specialized care for residents with changes in health for residents in long term care facilities.

Earlier in the year, SISD CNA instructor, Heather Wiggins, RN applied to become an In-Facility Testing Site through Prometric Test Centers. The facility was notified of approval in October 2020 after meeting certain state requirements regarding lab set up and computer software installation.

This was the first year that Silsbee CNA students were able to test in their own skills lab instead of traveling to an off-site regional test center.
