2022 Silsbee High School graduate signs with the Baylor Bears mascot SIC’urity team
June 20, 2022 – We’ve got tigers and bears but no lions in this story. 2022 Silsbee High School graduate, Isabella Merritt, is taking her mascot talents to the collegiate level. She has officially signed with the Baylor Bears mascot SIC’urity team.
Merritt’s time as Tiger Jim is a title she carried for six years, making her the longest standing mascot at Silsbee ISD.
Her time as Tiger Jim comes with many accomplishments. She is in the 6X UCA mascot All-American, the first Silsbee mascot to compete in a regional championship, earned first place at the Southwest Regional Championship which consisted of Texas and Oklahoma mascots, and competed in the largest Texas high school competition and placed in the top 3.
Merritt was a crowd favorite. Once Tiger Jim hit the field, the kids swarmed.
The year COVID hit was tough, but Merritt took her talents to the streets to bring joy to the Silsbee community during such a dark time.
For Merritt, Tiger Jim was more than just a costume to wear at a football game, pep rally or community event. When she put on the suit, she brought a long-standing tradition to life.
During her signing Monday night, she thanked everyone for their support and encouragement through the years.
Though she is losing her stipes, her Tiger Pride runs deep.
We, at Tiger Nation, wish Isabella Merritt the best as she begins her journey as one of the newest members of the Baylor Bears mascot SIC’urity team, which consists of 12 total mascots.
