Two high school graduates to represent the district, Texas at National Leadership Conference in California
June 23, 2022 – Two Silsbee High School 2022 graduates will represent the district and the state of Texas at the National Leadership Conference in California, after placing second at the state competition earlier this year. Emma Hayes and Kennedy Blincoe have been working on this project for FCCLA competitions all year.
The project is called Every Story and falls under the category of Public Policy Advocate.
Their project focuses on making Texas Senate Bill 279 a nationwide mandated policy.
SB 279 centers on mental health by providing access to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline printed on the back our student ID's.
The pair’s goal is to make it to where every state adopts a similar policy to make these resources available to anyone who may need it in an easily accessible place, such as student ID's, school webpages, or even a centralized website.
The National Suicide Prevention hotline gives students resources and access to a mental health professional to assist them with any issues they may have or to help them with difficult things they may be experiencing.
As of today, many states do not have a program available to many young adults who could benefit from their services.
Hayes and Blincoe are hosting a link sale fundraiser on Saturday, June 25 at Brookshire Brothers in Silsbee. The money raised will help raise money for their National Competition. The link sale will be from 11am to 2 pm.
The National Leadership Conference is June 28-July 4.
The duo will go head to head with the nation on June 30.
