Young SHS swim team makes big waves at the district meet on Saturday
January 21, 2023 –Four Silsbee High School athletes competed at the District Meet. The meet was held on Saturday at the Beaumont Natatorium. The team consists of three boys and two girls.
According to Head Coach Mason Youngblood, all four swimmers dropped a considerable amount of time from previous meets.
“This season we had a very close-knit group of athletes and I loved watching them push themselves to get better,” said Mason Youngblood, swim head coach.
Junior Aeneas Wollmann became the district champ in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.32 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.70. Wollmann will advance to Regionals, and he is seeded in first place.
Sophomore Robbie Abshire placed 9th in the 100 backstroke and 8th in the 50 freestyle.
Freshman Tristan Ringo placed 10th in the 50 freestyle and 11th in the 100 freestyle.
Freshman Brianna Glenn placed 13th in the 50 freestyle and 9th in the 100 freestyle.
“District showed all the work they put in. I'm extremely proud of Wollmann because he had goals for this year that he truly has achieved and continues to kill it in the pool,” said Youngblood.
This year, UIL has a Class 4A Division, which means Silsbee will not have to compete in Class 5A.
Regional prelims are Thursday, January 26 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Lamar High School Natatorium.
